Gomes set for Man United extension

Manchester United are reportedly close to finalising a new contract with academy graduate Angel Gomes.

The 19-year-old has been in a contract standoff with the Red Devils over the past year and there have been fears that he could leave on a free transfer with his current deal expiring on June 30.

Premier League rivals Chelsea have been keeping a close eye on the situation in recent weeks but it appears that forward is now on the cusp of signing a new long-term deal at Old Trafford.

According to The Athletic, the Red Devils have made a breakthrough in the contract negotiations with the youngster and they are close to rewarding him with a new deal worth £25,000-a-week.

Gomes has been training alongside the first-team squad despite the uncertainty over his future. He could be involved for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's when they resume their league campaign later this month.

The teenager has made only six appearances for United this term.
