Chelsea confirm contract extension for Dutch midfielder
Chelsea have confirmed that they have extended the contract of midfielder Marco van Ginkel until the summer of 2021.
Van Ginkel has endured a frustrating time on the sidelines with multiple knee ligament injuries and he has not played a competitive game in two years.
He has recently returned to training after multiple setbacks and the club have now taken the decision to renew his contract beyond June 30.
The Dutchman has been rewarded with a fresh 12-month deal and it remains to be seen whether he can revive his career next term.
Van Ginkel is expected to link up with the development squad at the beginning of next season and he has the chance to prove his fitness.
The Netherlands international has made only two league appearances for Chelsea in his career and both of them came in 2013.
He has previously spent three seasons on loan with PSV where he has impressed with 31 goals from 64 appearances in all competitions.
