Mikel Arteta sends message to Arsenal board regarding signings
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has acknowledged that the club will need to spend in the upcoming transfer window regardless of their failure to qualify for the Champions League.
The north London side have missed out on qualifying for the elite competition for the fourth season running and there is the possibility that they may not even secure a Europa League berth.
They are currently five points behind Wolverhampton Wanderers in the race for the second Europa League spot with three games left and they may have to win the FA Cup in order to qualify for the competition.
Amidst this, Arteta has acknowledged that the club must spend on quality signings this summer or else fall further behind their competitors in the top-four race next season
"If you are not in the Champions League and you say 'OK, I (the club) don't invest because I don't have the financial ability to do it', but the other clubs invest, then the gap becomes bigger," He told Sky Sports.
Arsenal are currently winless in successive league games. They are scheduled to host reigning champions Liverpool in tonight's encounter at the Emirates Stadium.
