Chelsea make Havertz bid

Chelsea have reportedly made an opening bid for Bayer Leverkusen attacker Kai Havertz.

The Germany international has been in fine form for Leverkusen this term and he has bagged 17 goals and nine assists across all competitions.

The Blues have been in regular contact with the Bundesliga outfit and transfer pundit Ian McGarry claims that they have made an opening bid for Havertz.

Frank Lampard's side have offered £45m plus £9m in add-ons for the 21-year-old, but the proposal is expected to be rejected by Leverkusen.

Leverkusen want £90m for their prized asset and they are determined to play hardball until the Blues come to close to matching their price tag.

Still, the Blues are confident that they will eventually get their hands on the German, who is comfortable playing anywhere in the attack.

The Blues have shown a keen interest in strengthening their attacking options, but it is still unclear whether they will reinforce the defence.
