Torres on Man United radar

Manchester United could make a move for Villarreal defender Pau Torres during the final weeks of the summer transfer window.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen on signing a new centre-back this summer, who can compete for a starting role in the forthcoming campaign.

RB Leipzig's Dayot Upamecano had recently emerged as an option, but a deal appears unlikely with the defender having just extended his contract.

According to Manchester Evening News, Torres has now been identified as the alternative target and the club could make a move in the coming weeks.

The Spain international is a key member of the Yellow Submarines and he has caught the eye of numerous clubs including Manchester City this summer.

He currently has a release clause worth £45.6m on his contract and it remains to be seen whether the Red Devils are willing to activate the option.

United could offload the likes of Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo and Chris Smalling in order to fund the move for Torres, who has spent his entire career with Villarreal.

Victor Lindelof an Harry Maguire are currently the first-choice centre-backs for United, but Solskjaer is not convinced by the former's displays.
