Manchester United are reportedly close to reaching an agreement to sign Alex Telles from Porto.

The Brazil international has been heavily linked with the Red Devils in recent weeks with Ole Gunnar Solkjaer eyeing a new option for the left-back role.

Initially, it was suggested that Porto won't sell the defender for anything less than his £36.7m release clause, but it appears that they have eventually lowered their price tag.

Telles' current deal expires at the end of the current season and reports claim that the Primeira Liga outfit are prepared to sanction his sale for a reduced sum of around £18m.

United's initial offer of £12m was rejected by the Portuguese giants and they are now expected to come up with an improved bid close to Porto's valuation.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side are confident that they can reach an agreement for Telles in the next 24 hours. Telles, who has represented Brazil on the solitary occasion, has already agreed personal terms.

He is set to become the club's second major signing of the summer transfer window following the arrival of midfielder Donny van de Beek from Ajax.
