Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said that Phil Jones could return to first-team contention once he recovers from his injury setback.

The England international was recently left out of the club's Premier League and Champions League squads and reports have emerged that he could push for a January exit.

However, speaking in a press conference on Friday, Solskjaer has emphasised that the centre-back was left out of the squad as he had recently undergone a knee surgery.

He added that the former Blackburn Rovers graduate is making good progress and could return to the squad, suppose he is able to prove his fitness at the turn of the year.

"Phil has been injured and had an operation. He's working really hard to be back and hopefully he'll get fit in December. When you're injured you can't get into the squad. He's working really diligently to get back in the squad," He told MUTV.

Manchester United are scheduled to host Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday evening. The Red Devils have a superb league record versus the Gunners and are unbeaten against them at Old Trafford since 2006.
