Real Madrid favourites to land Alaba

Real Madrid are reportedly favourites to sign David Alaba after Barcelona pulled out of contract talks with the Bayern Munich star.

The Austrian has spent his entire career with the German champions where he has accumulated more than 400 appearances.

However, he appears set to leave them when his contract expires on June 30 after a disagreement over the financial package for the renewal.

Hence, he is free to hold talks with foreign clubs beginning from this month and The Mail claims that the Blaugrana are no longer in the running.

The Catalan giants have been hampered by their high wage bill and they have put all transfer activity on hold until they offload some players.

That is likely to boost Madrid's prospects of landing Alaba, given they are willing to meet his demands for a £350,000-a-week deal.

Alaba has also been linked with Manchester United in recent weeks, but they are likewise reluctant to make an approach due to the wages involved.
