Chelsea working on contract extension for defender
Chelsea are reportedly negotiating a new contract with defender Thiago Silva, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed.
The centre-back joined the Blues on a free transfer last summer and he has since made 21 appearances in all competitions.
Silva has not played since early February due to multiple hamstring injuries, but he is likely to return after the international break.
According to Romano, talks are underway between the club and Silva over a new deal beyond the current campaign.
Silva's current contract has a 12-month extension clause which could be triggered by mutual agreement between both parties.
However, the west London side are exploring the prospect of keeping him beyond next season in a multi-year deal.
The Blues are currently fourth in the league standings with 51 points, three ahead of West Ham United, who have a game in hand.
They are scheduled to host struggling Sheffield United in the FA Cup quarter-final on Sunday before the international break.
