Arsenal confirm release of Portuguese defender
Arsenal have confirmed that Cedric Soares will head for the exit door when his contract expires at the end of the month.
The Portuguese joined the Gunners on loan from Southampton in January 2020 and he signed a permanent deal in June of the same year.
Cedric has since been a fringe player in the right-back department and the club have now made the decision to part ways.
They had an option to keep him for another 12 months, but the board have opted to end their association with the former Sporting Lisbon man.
The Gunners are well equipped in the right-back position. Ben White is an undisputed starter under manager Mikel Arteta.
Aside from him, the north London club have Takehiro Tomiyasu and Jurrien Timber. The latter has a point to prove in the next campaign.
Timber spent almost the entire 2023/24 season on the sidelines with a serious knee ligament injury. He will be eager to make amends.
