Manchester United receive Kalidou Koulibaly transfer boost

Kalidou Koulibaly news

Koulibaly available for a cut-price fee this summer

Manchester United have received a boost in signing Kalidou Koulibaly with Napoli slashing the asking price for the central defender.

The Senegal international was valued at around £87m last summer and that put off the likes of United and Manchester City from signing him.

However, the centre-back could be available for just £37m in the next transfer window with Napoli struggling financially amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The club's president Aurelio De Laurentiis is prepared to permit the departure of Koulibaly as he is also the club's highest earner.

United are on the search for a new defensive partner for Harry Maguire and Koulibaly could fit the bill with his strong physical presence.

Still, the 29-year-old may potentially demand club-record wages as he will have plenty of options to consider, if he leaves Naples.

Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are also long-term admirers of the central defender, who was previously with Genk.

Koulibaly has made 274 appearances for Napoli to date.
