Cavani signs new Manchester United deal

Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani has put pen-to-paper on a fresh one-year contract with Manchester United.

The 34-year-old has been in-and-out of the starting line-up this term due to injuries, but has impressed with 15 goals in all competitions.

His form has been exceptional of late with five goals from three games, and he has now extended his stay for another 12 months.

Earlier this year, Cavani was leaning towards a potential return to South America with Boca Juniors keen on signing him.

However, he has been convinced to remain with the Red Devils after prolonged talks with his family and entourage.

Cavani's stay is expected to change United's transfer plans for the summer. They are likely to delay the purchase of another striker.

They could instead utilise the funds to sign a new winger, midfielder and centre-back ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

The club are planning to revive their interest in Borussia Dortmund's Jadon Sancho after a failed approach last summer.
