Silva set for Chelsea contract extension

Chelsea are reportedly close to triggering an extension clause in the contract of Brazilian defender Thiago Silva.

The 36-year-old joined on a free transfer last summer after the expiry of his contract with Paris Saint-Germain.

He has since been a solid performer in the central defence, and the hierarchy are happy to extend his stay.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the defender will stay for another 12 months with both parties having the same ambition.

The club have a 12-month extension clause which needs to be mutually agreed on. Silva has given the go-ahead for the renewal.

Meanwhile, the Blues are expected to open negotiations with N'Golo Kante and Jorginho over new long-term contracts.

The midfield duo have been in fine form under Thomas Tuchel, and they have particularly excelled in the Champions League.

Jorginho, Kante and Silva are expected to start for the Blues when they face Leicester City in the FA Cup final on Saturday.
