Manchester City wanted to sign Chelsea striker last year

The agent of Romelu Lukaku has revealed that Manchester City were interested in signing the Belgian striker last year.

The Cityzens were linked with a possible move for Lukaku in 2020, but nothing materialised beyond the speculation.

It was suggested that they could return for his services this summer, but it was Chelsea that won the race to sign him from Inter.

Speaking to The Telegraph, Lukaku's representative Federico Pastorello has now revealed that the Cityzens made an approach.

They attempted to sign him during the 2020 summer transfer window, but Lukaku wanted to stay with Inter to win the league title.

Lukaku returned to the Blues after seven seasons for a club-record fee this summer. He has made a decent start with four goals.

The Belgian has failed to score in his previous seven games, and may take a while to end the run after sustaining an ankle injury.

It is unclear when the 28-year-old could return to action for the Blues.
