Arsenal have proposed to sign Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo on a long-term deal, Gazzetta dello Sport claims.

The Gunners are keen on landing a new midfielder after sanctioning the loan exit of Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

Arthur is the priority target this month, and it is now claimed that they are eyeing a long-term deal for him.

The north London giants were initially looking to sign him on loan for the remainder of the campaign.

The Bianconeri were not tempted by the proposal. They have now offered to sign him on an 18-month loan.

On top of this, the club are willing to include an option to buy Arthur, who was previously with Barcelona.

Juventus have not seen the best of Arthur amid injuries, but they still value him in the region of €50 million.

Arthur is ready to join the Gunners this month, but the move depends on Juventus landing a replacement.

There is growing optimism that a deal will materialise before the deadline.
