Cesar Azpilicueta news

Azpilicueta open to Chelsea stay

Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta is determined to sign a new multi-year contract, according to The Athletic.

The 32-year-old has made over 450 appearances for the Blues, but there is uncertainty over his future at the moment.

His contract expires in less than six months, and there is speculation that he could join Atletico or Barcelona for free.

The Blues are only willing to hand him a 12-month renewal, but Azpilicueta remains optimistic of a multi-year deal.

The Spaniard is eyeing another two seasons up front with the option to extend for another year by mutual agreement.

He is prepared to hold fresh negotiations with the Blues' hierarchy rather than sign a pre-contract with a foreign club.

While Azpilicueta is keen to stay, the same does not appear the case with Andreas Christensen at the current point of time.

Christensen has declined the Blues' contract proposal. He has been fancied to join Barcelona when his contract expires in the summer.
