Arsenal have asked about Napoli midfielder

Arsenal have enquired over the possibility of signing Napoli midfielder Fabian Ruiz during the summer transfer window.

The Spaniard is one of the main midfield targets for manager Mikel Arteta, who will be backed with funds this summer.

The Gunners have already made contact with the player's agent, but they are not front-runners in the pursuit, as per Area Napoli.

Barcelona and Real Madrid have been long-term admirers, and Ruiz is likely to prioritise a move to one of the Spanish heavyweights.

The Blaugrana have been long linked with his services, but their move may largely depend on recouping more funds through sales.

Hence, Los Blancos could have the advantage in the race, but the midfielder won't be available on the cheap in the next transfer window.

Ruiz will enter the final 12 months of his contract in July, but Napoli are still likely to demand around €40 million amid widespread interest.

The 25-year-old has been a key player for the Naples outfit, bagging six goals and four assists from 28 appearances in all competitions.
