Man Utd want Portuguese defender

Manchester United are keeping tabs on Sporting Lisbon defender Goncalo Inacio ahead of a summer move, A Bola claims.

The Red Devils are expected to bolster their squad this summer, and a new central defender could be among the priorities.

They are looking for a left-footed option, and A Bola claims that the club have been monitoring Inacio for the past few months.

United have yet to make a formal approach for his signature, but they have a genuine interest that could transform into a bid.

Sporting are not looking to sell the 20-year-old at the present point, and United will have to trigger the €45m release clause to sign him.

United's main competition could be Newcastle United, who were eager to land the emerging centre-back at the beginning of the year.

Their bid of around €30m was snubbed by the Portuguese giants, and the Magpies could come again with an improved package.

United will be favourites to sign him over the Magpies, but they may need to assure him with a regular role or he could look elsewhere.
