Man Utd stall Luke Shaw contract talks

Manchester United have stalled contract talks with defender Luke Shaw after the intervention of incoming manager Erik ten Hag.

Shaw's current deal with United expires in the summer of 2023, but the club have the option of extending his stay for 12 months.

Talks were recently underway over an improved deal, but that has now been put on hold with Ten Hag wanting to assess him.

Shaw won't be rewarded a new deal for the next 12 months at least. In this period, he will be given the chance to prove himself.

The England international is about to end his eighth campaign with the Red Devils, but he has yet to become an undisputed starter.

He has produced a number of quality performances from left-back, but there has been inconsistency and a number of injury concerns.

The next campaign could be a make-or-break for Shaw. Another injury-plagued season would pave the way for his permanent exit.

Shaw has been out with a leg surgery in recent weeks, but is expected to return in time for the club's pre-season training under Ten Hag.
