Man Utd open talks to sign Dutch defender

Timber to Man Utd?

Manchester United have opened talks with Ajax over a summer deal for Jurrien Timber, The Guardian reports.

The Red Devils are eager to sign a new centre-back this summer, and Timber has reportedly emerged as the prime target.

Erik ten Hag worked with the 20-year-old at Ajax over the past two seasons, and he is now eyeing a reunion at Old Trafford.

According to The Guardian, the Red Devils have formally entered talks with Ajax, but there has not been any progress yet.

Timber still has two years remaining on his existing deal and Ajax have offered him fresh terms for a short-term renewal.

They are not actively looking to sell him, but if the situation arises, they could demand a fee of around €50 million.

United are keeping their options open. While Ten Hag prefers Timber, Villarreal's Pau Torres is the alternative target.

The Spaniard has a release clause worth €60m that can be triggered. It has been claimed that he prefers a move to Old Trafford.
