Barcelona vice-president Eduard Romeu has dismissed suggestions that the club are looking to sell Manchester United target Frenkie de Jong this summer.

The Netherlands international has been with the club for the past three seasons, but there has been speculation that he could be sold amid their financial issues.

However, those rumours have been shot down by Romeu, who has insisted that the Dutchman won't be leaving the club due to economic reasons this summer.

He told ESPN: "We have not budgeted for the sale of players. Frenkie de Jong? If he leaves, it's a technical decision, not an economic one. But I repeat, we have planned no departure."

United are reported to have entered talks with Barcelona for De Jong, but it appears a deal won't be straightforward due to the midfielder's stance.

De Jong is very happy at Barcelona and wants to be playing in the Champions League which United can't offer for next season.

If they manage to convince him over a transfer, they would still need to make a huge outlay of around £72.5m to land his signature.
