Frenkie de Jong very close to Man Utd transfer

Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong is reportedly on the cusp of joining Manchester United this summer.

The Netherlands international has been Erik ten Hag's top target for the transfer window, and a deal is now close to completion.

According to Sport, United have agreed to pay around €80 million for De Jong, and they are now discussing personal terms.

The Blaugrana have given the go-ahead for the transfer, and it could be formally completed before the end of June.

De Jong is an excellent passer from the centre of the park, and should provide a big upgrade on the current options.

Scott McTominay and Fred have impressed in stages, but have struggled for consistency over an extended run of games.

De Jong prefers to play in the number six role, and he could bring control to the proceedings with his superb awareness.

The Dutchman is also strong in winning ground duels and can provide key passes in the final third while making tireless runs.
