United handed De Jong boost by Laporta

Manchester United have been handed a boost in signing Frenkie de Jong with Barcelona president Joan Laporta refusing to rule out his exit.

The Netherlands international has been United's priority midfield target, and they have already agreed a transfer fee with the Blaugrana.

However, the 25-year-old is not convinced over a transfer due to the lack of Champions League football. He has yet to accept personal terms.

Despite this, Laporta has refused to categorically rule out his move to United while speaking in an exclusive interview with CBS Sports.

He said: "In football, you never know. I can’t say categorically [on possible move to Old Trafford]. It all depends on the different parties."

De Jong is currently with the Catalan giants on their pre-season tour of the US. He has been playing as a central defender during the trip.

This could be a ploy from the Blaugrana to push him through the exit door. They need a big-money sale after the summer spending spree.
