Manuel Akanji deal to Man City complete
Man City have agreed a 7 million euro transfer to sign Swiss international defender Manuel Akanji from Borussia Dortmund, with the 27-year-old centre-back set to sign a three year deal at the Etihad Stadium. Manager Pep Guardiola had been keen to add strength in depth to his defensive ranks, and the signing of the 6 foot 2 defender will be welcome as the hectic transfer window comes to a close.
Akanji, who has made 119 appearances for Dortmund since his arrival from Basel in 2018, has been a long-term target for Man City, with the Cityzens reportedly tabling their interest in the player as far back as two years ago. However, it is only now that Dortmund have agreed to sell, as Akanji has slipped down the pecking order at the club.
Akanji emerged through Winterthur's youth team in his homeland, before a move to Swiss giants Basel followed shortly after. Akanji has since been a member of his country's squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, as well as the 2020 European Championship.
It is understood that the player will go straight into City's squad for this weekend's game away at Aston Villa.
