Draxler set for Portugal move

German international Julian Draxler hopes to kickstart his struggling career at Benfica, as the 28-year-old today agrees a loan deal to join the Portuguese side. Since his arrival at PSG in 2017, Draxler has played 131 times for the club, but has failed to represent the team week in week out since the 2018-19 season.

Draxler will now move to Benfica on loan for a season, and it is understood that the club can sign Draxler on a permanent basis at the end of this season for a fee of around 17 million euros. Draxler is said to be keen to make a permanent move to Portugal.

Draxler, a full German international, has two caps so far this year for his country and had begun to show some form at the back end of last season that impressed the German national team's selection staff.  However the winger is also desperate to take part in the World Cup in Qatar, and knows that another campaign resting on the bench at PSG is going to do him no favours.

Benfica will pay a fee of 300,000 euros for the duration of the loan spell, and pay around 50 percent of the player's salary.
