Brands talks up Gakpo to Liverpool

PSV sporting director Marcel Brands has said that Liverpool would be a good destination for Cody Gakpo next summer.

The Dutchman was touted to join Manchester United during the last transfer window, but the club refused to meet the asking price.

After the huge €100 million outlay on Ajax's Antony, United did not have the funds to meet the €50m price tag for Gakpo's services.

Speaking to ESPN.nl, Brands has now talked up the prospect of Liverpool signing Gakpo at the end of the current campaign.

He said: "Liverpool is a club that is always very focused. Sometimes they get players for the next season in November. Would they be a good partner to send Gakpo in the summer? Yes, that's right."

Gakpo has been in extraordinary form for PSV this term. He has amassed 13 goals and 17 assists from just 23 appearances so far.

He is expected to play a key role for the Netherlands at the World Cup and we won't be surprised if he leaves PSV in January.

However, he is unlikely to come for cheap. PSV wanted €50m last summer and the price could be raised to €70m next year.
