Newcastle United are reportedly planning to beat Arsenal in the race to sign Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk.

The Ukrainian has been in superb form for Shakhtar this term with eight goals and seven assists from just 15 appearances.

His form has led to suggestions that he could leave in January and it appears there could be plenty of transfer interest.

Arsenal are said to be planning a winter move for the 21-year-old, but they face fierce competition from Newcastle.

The Magpies have exceeded expectations since their Saudi-led takeover and they are currently third in the league table.

Their wealthy owners are expected to back manager Eddie Howe with funds and there could be a huge outlay on Mudryk.

Mudryk was valued in the region of €45m last summer, but Shakhtar are now looking for around €60m to sanction his sale.

Arsenal will be hoping that they can lure the youngster, having made a stunning start that sees them top of the league.
