Chelsea target Christopher Nkunku suffers injury blow
Chelsea target Christopher Nkunku has been ruled out of the upcoming World Cup with France following a knee injury yesterday.
The 24-year-old has been in tremendous form for RB Leipzig this season, bagging 17 goals and four assists in all competitions.
He was expected to play a leading role for Les Blues in their World Cup defence in Qatar, but won't be able to do so hereafter.
Nkunku sustained a knee injury after a challenge from Eduardo Camavinga in training yesterday. France have now confirmed bad news.
The setback is significant enough to keep him out of the World Cup. He has been replaced by Eintracht Frankfurt star Randal Kolo Munai.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have been determined to land Nkunku, but the latest injury could scupper their chances of signing him in January.
Nkunku's release clause of €60m only becomes active in June 2023. Chelsea may not want to pay €100m for him this winter unless he is fully fit.
