Chelsea deal for Enzo Fernandez currently off as Benfica boss fumes

Enzo Fernandez news

Enzo Fernandez deal could be off

Chelsea's pursuit of Argentina World Cup winning midfielder Enzo Fernandez could fall through after Benfica's boss Roger Schmidt complained about the Blues' offer for the midfielder. Fernandez is said to be desperate to move to England.

Having won the World Cup 2022 Young Player of the Tournament, Fernandez is now one of Europe's most highly rated young players and Chelsea are in the market to sign a new midfielder.

However, Roger Schmidt is furious at Chelsea for their relentless pursuit of the player. Schmidt told reporters: "There is a club who want our player. They know we don't want to sell the player. They tried to get the player on their side, and they know that they can only get this player when they pay the clause.

"It's a very clear situation. What the club is doing, who wants to buy Enzo, is disrespectful against all of us, against Benfica. And I cannot accept what they are doing.

"To make the player crazy, then to pretend they can pay the clause, then later they want to negotiate, is not what I understand to be a good relationship between clubs who want to discuss about the player."

Chelsea do not want to match the player's minimum fee release clause, which is said to be more than 100 million euros.
