Fulham to sign former player Chris Smalling

Chris Smalling news

Smalling set for England return?

Premier League side Fulham are exploring a transfer move to sign their former defender Chris Smalling. The 33-year-old is surplus to requirements at Roma, and could now leave Italy for a return to England in a deal worth around £750,000.

Fulham manager Marco Silva has performed very well in charge at the Cottagers so far this season, but is worried that a slip in form could see Fulham drop down the Premier League table rapidly. Roma are desperate to keep hold of Smalling, with manager Jose Mourinho an admirer of the centre back.

Marco Silva wants to add some experience to their squad during the January transfer window, and the club have been linked with a host of new faces.

However, it is their own former player Chris Smalling that appears to be at the very top of the transfer wishlist.

Should Smalling decide to return to his former club, it is understood that the Cottagers are ready to offer the defender an 18 month contract worth an approximate £100,000 per week.
