Chelsea confirm Frank Lampard as caretaker boss

Lampard rejoins Chelsea

Chelsea have confirmed that Frank Lampard will be their interim manager for the remainder of the campaign.

The west London giants recently dismissed Graham Potter from the helm and appointed Bruno as their caretaker.

However, within the space of one game, they have now re-signed Lampard as an interim boss until the end of May.

Lampard was previously their permanent manager between 2019 and 2021 before being replaced by Thomas Tuchel.

He helped the Blues finish in the top four in his debut season, but that's unlikely to happen in the current campaign.

The Blues are 14 points behind the Champions League places in the top-flight and are unlikely to recover the deficit.

Hence, their only chance of returning to the competition is by winning the Champions League which is a difficult task.

They face a huge challenge against holders Real Madrid in the quarter-final and will start the tie as massive under dogs.

If Chelsea were to win the competition against the odds, Lampard could well be in the reckoning for a permanent role again.
