Thiago Silva slams Chelsea owners after Champions League exit
Chelsea defender Thiago Silva has slammed the club's owners for their regular spending over the past year.
The Blues have spent £600m on signings since their takeover by Clearlake Capital Group last summer.
However, there have been barely any exits and this has left a bloated squad for the managers to deal with.
Silva has now said that the manager can only pick 11 players and the club need to stop spending hereafter.
The Brazilian added that there needs to be a strategy in place rather than purchasing players with regularity.
He said: "The manager can only pick 11 from a squad of 30-something – that's tough. Some can't make the squad.""We signed eight in January, we need to stop and put a strategy in place otherwise next season we could make the same mistakes."
Chelsea bowed out of the Champions League yesterday after a 4-0 aggregate defeat to Real Madrid in the quarter-final.
They are currently 11th in the Premier League and may not play any form of European football in the next campaign.
