Man Utd ready to extend contract of star defender
Manchester United are ready to extend the contract of Victor Lindelof amid his impressive performances this month.
The Sweden international has been a fringe player for the Red Devils this term due to the vast competition for places.
Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez have been the regular pairing in central defence for most of the campaign.
Harry Maguire has been the preferred deputy behind the duo but the scenario has somewhat changed in recent weeks.
With Varane and Martinez injured, Lindelof has been a regular at the heart of the defence alongside Luke Shaw.
The duo have formed a brilliant partnership and United are now keen to prolong Lindelof's stay for 12 months.
The defender's current deal expires in the summer of 2024 but United have a 12-month extension clause available.
They are expected to trigger the option in the coming weeks rather than waiting for him to enter the final year of his deal.
United plan to keep Lindelof for another season at least unless they recoup the €35m fee paid to Benfica for him.
