Thuram wants Barca contract

FC Barcelona defender Lilian Thuram has insisted that he wants to stay on at Barcelona although his current contract expires this June. Thuram says that he wants to continue playing football even at 36 years of age and has no plan of quitting the game yet.

Thuram was signed by Barcelona in the summer of 2006 from Juventus in the wake of the Calciopoli scandal in Italy in which Juventus were related to the Italian Serie B. Thuram though has never been a regular for Frank Rijkaard’s team in his two seasons at Camp Nou.

That is why there are rumours that he woundn’t be given a new deal. Moreover, the Catalan giants are expected to undergo a massive revamp in the summer with a plethora of players heading for the exit door.

Although Lilian Thuram is expected to be one of the players whom Barca would be glad to see the back off, the French veteran defender insists that he wants to play on. He says:

“I still don't know what I am going to do next season but I want to keep playing football.”

Thuram has also given his support to Josep Guardiola, who is going to take over the reigns of Barcelona from Frank Rijkaard next season. Thuram has this to say about Guardiola:

“He is young but competent. I hope people will help him, make things a bit easier and that Barcelona will win titles.”
