Young left-back determined to stay at Chelsea
Young left-back Ian Maatsen has acknowledged that he would like to stay at Chelsea amid interest from West Ham United.
The 21-year-old spent the previous season on loan with Burnley. He scored four goals and provided six assists from 42 outings.
He continued the good form in the recent friendly against Wrexham, scoring both of the club's goals during the opening half.
Maatsen has now opened the door to staying with the Blues, though the final decision depends on the manager and the hierarchy.
He said: "I try to do my best. It's all I can do. Of course I want to stay. If I prove that every day in training and work hard in the matches, they'll decide. Hopefully I can stay here."
Chelsea currently have Ben Chilwell as the first-choice left-back with Marc Cucurella, Lewis Hall and Maatsen as potential back-up.
Hall looks very likely to leave on a temporary basis while there are suggestions that Maatsen could be sold permanently.
