Man Utd vs Atletico Madrid in deadline day swoop for Hojbjerg

Hojbjerg set for Spurs departure

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been given the green light to depart White Hart Lane on loan, and Atletico Madrid and Manchester United are the duo that are leading the race to sign the 28-year-old Denmark international. Having played 111 games for Spurs, the 6 foot 2 central midfielder is a fan favourite at the club, but new manager Ange Postecoglou has told the former Southampton man that he is free to leave on a short-term basis.

It is understood that Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone is a huge fan of Hojbjerg, whilst Man Utd boss Erik Ten Hag wants to add more mettle to his midfield on transfer deadline day for an affordable price.

Spurs will want around £2.5 million for a loan deal for Hojbjerg, and there is no plan to let him leave on a permanent basis.

The player has two years left of his current deal at Tottenham and Erik Ten Hag is familiar with the midfielder having worked with him in 2013 at Bayern Munich, where Hojbjerg emerged as a youth player. Atletico thumped Rayo Vallecano in their most recent game 7-0 and do not appear to have a defensive crisis, unlike Man Utd where the club have leaked several goals in their first few games of the league season.
