Man Utd set sights on signing young Italian ace

Manchester United have their sights on landing Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini during the winter transfer window.

The Red Devils have been monitoring the Italian for some period of time and they could step up their interest next month.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe recently acquired his 25 per cent stake at United and the Premier League could approve his deal in late January.

This could pave the way for a spending spree and a new centre-back could be signed to help improve their defensive record.

Scalvini is one of the players appreciated by the Red Devils, but Atalanta are reluctant to sell him unless a crazy offer arrives.

They valued him in the region of €50m earlier this year and may want a much significant fee to contemplate a winter exit.

It seems unlikely that United will pay such a fee with Ratcliffe keen on avoiding spending huge fees on transfers going forward.

The British billionaire believes the club have been coerced into paying huge sums and wants better negotiation in deals in future.
