Andros Townsend signs new Luton Town deal
Luton Town have agreed a new long-term deal with Andros Townsend, after the winger's return to form for the Hatters persuaded the club to offer the player an 18-month deal. The 32-year-old has impressed during his short-term deal at Kenilworth Road, and will now be given a new deal for his recent performances.
After spells at Tottenham and Everton, many feared that Townsend's career could be over. However, Townsend's recent return to good form has persauded his club to offer a fresh contract.
Townsend told the media after signing the new contract: “Obviously I’m delighted; three months ago I thought my career was over. So from going to begging around the world just for a trial to being offered a longer contract is a dream come true.
“It’s a special, special football club. I think we can really achieve something special this season. It’s only half-way done, we’ve got six months – 19 games – to pull off the unthinkable.”
Luton manager Rob Edwards said of the deal: "It’s an amazing signing for us. Andros has come into the group with real humility and professionalism. He’s shown the whole group what it means to be elite and a top-end pro."
