Mikel Arteta expresses doubts over striker signing this month

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has expressed doubts over signing a new striker during the January transfer window.

The north London giants suffered a third straight defeat on the bounce on Sunday. They bowed out of the FA Cup after a 2-0 loss to Liverpool.

The Gunners dominated the proceedings in the opening half but were made to rue for missed chances. They squandered four big opportunities to score.

Speaking after the frustrating loss, Arteta said that it is not realistic that the club will pursue a new centre-forward in the ongoing transfer window.

He said: "At the moment it does not look realistic. What my job is, and what we have to do is improve our players and try to get better results with the players we have."

The Gunners are currently in a muddle as they find themselves fourth in the league and out of both Cup competitions at the beginning of the year.

Despite this, there is still plenty to play for. They are still in the title race and also have the chance to win a maiden Champions League title.
