Chelsea enter race to sign Roberto Firmino
Roberto Firmino could be set for a surprise return to the Premier League on loan, as Chelsea seek to add attacking strength to their squad for the second half of the league campaign. The Brazilian striker, who left Liverpool for Al-Ahli, is very highly rated in England and a return could be on the cards if the Stamford Bridge outfit can meet the forward's reported demands of £750,000 per week.
Since moving from Liverpool to Al-Ahli on a free transfer, Firmino has failed to live up to expectations, scoring just three goals in the domestic league in 17 games. This is a far cry from Firmino's record at Anfield, where he banged in a goal just a little over every three games; with 82 Premier League finishes to his name.
Chelsea have been dealt some poor luck in their attack as Nicolas Jackson has departed for the AFCON 2024 with his country, Senegal, whilst a second injury to Christopher Nkunku has left Mauricio Pochettino's attack in disarray. Today, Pochettino did receive some better news that Nkunku may not be out of action for as long as expected, but Firmino could still be brought in to add strength in depth to the Blues' forward line.
