Man Utd have special interest in signing Barcelona star

Manchester United have a special interest in signing Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong during the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils were eager to land the Dutchman from the Catalan giants in 2022. They finalised a fee with the La Liga club, but were unable to convince the midfielder into a transfer.

De Jong was adamant that he did not want to leave the club, but Onze TV3 claim that his stance could be different this time around.

The Netherlands star is unhappy with the lack of progress at Barcelona and believes the club are going backwards at the present point.

Despite making the last 16 of the Champions League, Barcelona are not favourites to win the competition in the current campaign.

De Jong is open to a new challenge while Xavi Hernandez's side could also sell him as they need a significant sale to balance their books.

The 26-year-old could be available for around €60 million and it is left to be seen whether United make a renewed approach for him.
