Arsenal open talks for Martin Zubimendi
Multiple media outlets have reported that Arsenal have begun negotiations to sign Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi in a deal that could be worth as much as 60 million euros. Barcelona were believed to be in pole position to sign the defensive midfielder, but an official approach from the Gunners is likely to tempt the player to move to North London instead.
Zubimendi has been linked with a transfer to the Emirates Stadium for three years, and is known to be admired by current Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta. With 144 La Liga appearances for Sociedad, Zubimendi is one of the club's most coveted and important players, but is ready to depart for pastures new in search of honours.
With five caps for Spain to his name, Zubimendi has only started to emerge as a possible regular for his country, appearing just three times in 2023 and once in 2024. It is hoped that a move to a bigger club will improve his opportunity for more international recognition.
It is understood that Arsenal could sign Zubimendi as a replacement for Thomas Partey, as the Ghanaian midfielder looks set to leave for a transfer to Saudi Arabia.
