Man Utd weighing up move for Barcelona defender

Manchester United are one of the clubs interested in signing Ronald Araujo from Barcelona during the summer transfer window.

The Uruguayan has been a mainstay in the central defensive department for the Blaugrana, but he could be sold to balance their books.

The Catalan giants are eyeing €80m for his sale and prefer to secure the funds before the start of the European Championship.

United were keen on landing Araujo a couple of seasons ago, but he eventually put pen-to-paper on a fresh deal with Barcelona.

The Blaugrana were more than happy to retain his services back then, but he could now be offloaded due to their poor financial situation.

Xavi Hernandez is a huge admirer of Araujo, but he has privately admitted that he may need to be sold such that the club can avoid FFP sanctions.

Aside from United, Bayern Munich are also long-term contenders for Araujo and should provide serious competition in the pursuit.
