Aston Villa confirm signing of talented Chelsea defender

Aston Villa have confirmed the signing of talented Chelsea left-back Ian Maatsen on a long-term contract.

The Dutchman spent the first half of last season with the Blues, but he was loaned out to Borussia Dortmund in January due to the lack of game time.

Maatsen made a huge impression for Dortmund during his short-term spell, but the German outfit could not afford the asking price to sign him.

Villa eventually won the race for £37.5 million. As part of the deal, the Blues agreed to sign Omari Kellyman in a deal worth £19 million.

Maatsen will be aiming to establish himself as a regular starter at Villa, who will be playing in the Champions League after a fabulous season.

Unai Emery's side performed above the odds in the recent campaign, but they face a tougher challenge this time around from the Big Six.

The likes of Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester United missed out on the competition and they are expected to come back stronger.
