Ben Chilwell to join Manchester United on loan?
England international defender Ben Chilwell has been told that he is free to leave Chelsea, as the left-back apparently already has an option to move to Man Utd on a loan deal. It is understood that United are ready to sign Chilwell for the next 12 months, and should the player impress he will be allowed to sign on a permanent basis.
Newly appointed manager Enzo Maresca has been quick to reshuffle his squad and had already informed Raheem Sterling that he could leave Stamford Bridge. Now Chilwell will likely follow Sterling out of West London.
The 27-year-old arrived at Chelsea in 2020 and appeared 70 times, scoring eight goals over the four seasons that he had played with the club. Chilwell had previously spent five years at Leicester City, having come through the youth ranks with the Foxes.
United want to move swiftly to complete a transfer deal, with just over a week before transfer deadline day. It is understood that so far Chelsea have received no other offers for Chilwell from other clubs, and United are therefore in pole position to secure the player's transfer rights.
