Chelsea considering move for Benfica defender

Chelsea are interested in signing Benfica centre-back Tomas Araujo before the transfer window closes on Friday evening.

The Blues have spent more than £230m on signings this summer, but their spending spree could continue before the deadline.

A new centre-back is one of the top priorities for the club and reports claim that Araujo is the main target at the current point.

The Blues have been keeping tabs on the 22-year-old talent, but a deal could depend on multiple centre-backs leaving the club.

Benoit Badiashile, Axel Disasi and Trevoh Chalobah are among candidates that could head for the exit door in the next 48 hours.

Chalobah is guaranteed to be offloaded in that period while Disasi or Badiashile could also move on to compensate for Araujo's arrival.

The Blues have made a statement with another summer of spending and they will be hoping to push for Champions League football.
