Chelsea preparing to sell striker to AEK Athens
Chelsea have opened talks with AEK Athens over the transfer of striker David Datro Fofana, according to The Athletic.
The Ivorian ace has been deemed surplus to requirements by manager Enzo Maresca and he is expected to be sold.
The transfer windows have already closed across Europe's top-five leagues, but Fofana still has offers from elsewhere.
The Athletic claim that the Blues are in negotiations with AEK over a permanent transfer for the ex-Molde man.
The Greek transfer window formally closes on Wednesday evening and Chelsea are hopeful of finding an agreement.
Fofana arrived at Chelsea with a big reputation, having scored plenty of goals during his short time with Molde.
He was being compared with Erling Haaland while some likened him to former Chelsea marksman Didier Drogba.
However, the striker has failed to live up to the expectations and Chelsea are now prepared to cut their losses on him.
The 21-year-old was signed for around £10m, but the Blues may have to accept a lesser fee from AEK for his services.
