Fergie hails victory
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has hailed his team after triumphing 6-5 on penalties over Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night in Moscow.
Man United came from behind in the penalty shootout and won only their third European Cup when Chelsea striker Nicholas Anleka missed his kick.
Sir Alex described the victory as sweet as the one in 1999 when Man United came from 1-0 down against Bayern Munich in Barcelona to win the match 2-1 in injury time.
Sir Alex was in an understandable buoyant mood after the European conquest and told Sky Sports:
Absolutely - it's the way we do it! But that's the first shootout I've ever won in a big game.
"When we missed the [Ronaldo] penalty kick, yeah, you think you're in trouble, but I think we deserve it, we had the best chances in the match.
"In the second half they had a lot of control, but in extra time we got a bit better.
"And it's a great team, a fantastic team. And I thought it was a good game.
"Is this my best team ever? Yes!"
The conquest implies that this season the Red Devils have accomplied a domestic league and European Cup double. Man United piped Chelsea to the Premier League title race on the last day of the Premiership race last week and have now overstepped them to become the European champions.
