Arsenal eyeing shock swoop for Newcastle United star
Arsenal could make a shock swoop for Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes this summer, according to Sport.
The Gunners are planning to strengthen their midfield department and they are already in advanced talks to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad.
However, Sport claim that the club are also weighing up a surprise swoop for Guimaraes under the supervision of new sporting director Andrea Berta.
Berta once secured a first refusal clause for Atletico Madrid on Guimaraes, but the Spanish outfit did not take the opportunity to secure his services.
The Italian has regrets over the same and it is claimed that he could bring him to north London when the transfer window reopens later this year.
Berta is reportedly preparing for a mega spending spree and reports claim that Arsenal could be ready to make an outlay of more than £300m.
Aside from a couple of midfielders, the Gunners are also aiming to land a marquee striker, a versatile winger as well as a back-up goalkeeper.
