Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta in direct talks with Nico Williams
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has been in direct talks with Athletic Bilbao star Nico Williams over a summer transfer, according to Caught Offside.
The Gunners are expected to bolster their attack for next season. A marquee striker is the main priority, but the club could also purchase a versatile winger.
Arteta is a big admirer of Williams and reports claim that the Spaniard has personally spoken with the 22-year-old to convince him over a transfer.
Chelsea are also in the hunt for the highly-rated forward, but Arsenal have an edge with Arteta personally communicating to his compatriot this week.
Williams has had an injury-hampered season with his boyhood club, but he has still managed 18 goal contributions in all competitions for them.
The Spaniard has the potential to improve his statistics in the prime of his career. He can be signed for his release clause worth £49 million.
Williams is likely to demand at least £250,000 per week in wages.
